BOW A STUDY AND CZECH CRYSTAL
2022 | Supported by IVF VARP-PA (International Visegrad Fund – Visegrad Artist Residency Program-Performing Arts) & Instytut Adama Mickiewicza (IAM) / Program "Kultura polska na świecie"
BOW A STUDY and czech crystal is a part of Wojciech Grudziński’s long-term research on the phenomenon of the bow and its choreographic and social dimensions. In this project we are exploring the liminal, suspicious and undefined moments of performance, thought as institutional practice. Bow a study is not just about bowing. It’s about relations between dancers and viewers within concrete economic system, it’s about presenting dancers’ unprotected pate and revealing the most vulnerable parts of the historic body, of the ”I”, with viewers.
Starting form exploring iconic biographies and turning points of the history of dance in mocumentary site-specyfic formula in the Venuše Theatre backstage we aim to the final performance, which is realized in series of reenactments, unconscious body quotes and intentional samples. In the “show” space, we’ll try to bring curtains in order of a performance itself, where relation between viewers and performers will no longer be limited by curtain falling and rising, where we can share our vulnerabilities with audience by means of gifts and gift exchange. The main aim in this performance is never to have debts “paid off” but to preserve a situation of personal indebtedness. TODAY TO BE IN DEBT IS DESIRABLE.
